UnLtd is delighted to welcome a new social investment fund, Ignite Social Enterprise, to the social entrepreneurship sector.
The fund was launched yesterday (3 December) at an event hosted by our partners Wayra and attended by investors and social entrepreneurs, including those from the Wayra UnLtd academy, the Big Venture Challenge and other UnLtd Awards.
Ignite Social Enterprise will support energy social entrepreneurs as they set up and scale social ventures based on energy issues. The fund, backed by Centrica, has also opened the call for its Big Energy Idea, seeking 10 ambitious energy social entrepreneurs who are seeking to raise a minimum of £50,000 to scale their idea.
UnLtd will use its experience and networks across the UK to support Ignite to find and support these exciting energy social entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the launch UnLtd chief executive Cliff Prior welcomed Ignite Social Enterprise and Centrica to the sector. He said social venturing can allow shortcuts to social innovation, allowing social entrepreneurs to accelerate their impact.
Cliff joined Centrica chief executive Sam Laidlaw and Simon Devonshire, director of Wayra Europe, in celebrating the role business has in supporting social entrepreneurship.
The first investee to be unveiled by Ignite Social Enterprise is UnLtd-backed venture the Together Group.
