UnLtd Sport Relief Awards provide
opportunities for young people to
bring communities together, to help
them promote understanding and
solve conflict through sport and
recreational activities.
This UK wide funding programme
is for 11-21 year olds, who are prepared
to go the extra mile and use their passion for
sport and other group activities to bring respect and understanding
to their communities by setting up their
own projects.
Funding of £250-£5,000 is available for
entrepreneurial young people who have
great ideas and who want to make a
difference. For example, with this money you
could engage young people from different
backgrounds by organising an indoor cricket
mini-world cup. Or perhaps you could help
reduce violence in your area by getting
young people to channel their energies into
football rather than fighting. Or how about running dance and arts workshops to get people to talk about different cultures in the community?
…all it takes is one great idea. So what are
you waiting for? This could be your chance to
get your community moving and score some
skills on the way!
UnLtd Sport Relief projects
D.U.I Dragons FC
19 year old Mahmoud from Cardiff started a football team to bring together young people from a variety of backgrounds in order to tackle segregation and anti-social behaviour in his local community.
Feltham Cheerleaders
Alex and Abbie, both 16 and from Feltham started a cheerleading squad for 5-11 year olds in their area who were bored due to a lack of after school activities. They hope to increase confidence and reduce incidents of leaving education early.
Horse Riding Classes
Gemma aged 20 from Canterbury set up a horse riding class for young women from low income families with behavioural problems and learning disabilities. Over the summer holidays, they attended a number of riding classes which helped teach practical skills and focused on team work. She hopes that by keeping these vulnerable young women occupied and giving them access to horses, they will stay out of trouble and develop valuable life skills.
Sports Leaders Dumbarton
Adam & Ashleigh both 17 from West Dumbarton are concerned with the high level of sectarian conflict between pupils at the catholic and protestant high schools in their area. In an attempt to combat this they have brought together young people from all religious groups to work towards a sports leader award. As well as working towards the awards they had several events aimed at breaking down sectarianism and discrimination.
