Do It For Real – unleashing the potential in young people
It’s that time of year that we like to take stock, and look back at some of our most successful programmes. One piece of work we’re particularly proud of us is Do It For Real, which mobilised young people to start and grow sustainable social action projects.
The unique programme saw us connect social ventures with both volunteers and expert mentors – we teamed up with Spirit of 2012 and Comic Relief with a shared purpose – the work was dedicated to helping young people discover their full potential and contribute to their communities, their futures and their livelihoods.
Young people are entrepreneurial, pro-active and imaginative. We truly believe in this and wanted to empower them to create social change on a local, regional and national level.
The work was focused on unlocking young people’s potential by giving youth groups the tools they need to realise the entrepreneurship of young people, creating connections to local partners and volunteers, offering start-up support to young social entrepreneurs, and supporting them to grow.
Do It for real was a big success. With the help of our partners across the UK we supported 347 social entrepreneurs between 2015 and 2017. In total, our young social entrepreneurs improved the lives of the 5,631 people they worked with.
If you want to know more, then there’s also the chance to step inside the innovative mind of a social entrepreneur and experience the story of three Do It For Real social entrepreneurs in our first-ever 360 film. If you’ve got a VR headset or Google Cardboard glasses, then this is a fabulous chance to put on your headphones and be inspired by real social change from around the United Kingdom.
